State Agriculture Department Pitching Illinois Foods
Officials with the Illinois Department of Agriculture are touting foods grown and produced right here in the Land of Lincoln.

Larry Aldag, marketing representative with the Illinois Department of Agriculture, says Illinois has more than 850 food companies. Officials are talking to grocery store chains, trying to get them to include more Illinois made foods on their shelves.

Aldag says there are many examples of Illinois food products, a number of which you may have never heard of.

"There's so many small companies, rural mom and pop companies, Aunt M's Gourmet Popcorn, Lonzerotti's Salad Dressings, Beverly's Salad Dressing...the list goes on and on."

Aldag says the ag department's pitch of locally grown and produced foods involves at least three major grocers. The hope is the state's products will be better represented in the supermarkets.
