Illinois House Back for Special Session Next Week
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich Wednesday announced that the Illinois House plans to call a regular session next week to discuss his amendatory vetoes as well as the lease of the state lottery to pay for a state capital plan.

"I understand that Speaker Madigan has now scheduled some days for the house to come into session and consider that and so if that is in fact what's happening then obviously that's a good sign," Blagojevich said in Chicago Wednesday.

Steve Brown, a spokesman for House Speaker Michael Madigan, confirmed that the meeting was set. Members would usually wait until the November veto session to take up the governors amendatory vetoes.

The $2.1 billion capital plan would fund new school construction as well as other infrastructure needs such as roads and bridges. Blagojevich says he and Madigan talked about the plan at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, although he says he will not disclose the details of what he calls a "private conversation."
