Not Guilty Plea in OxyContin Theft Case
A Galesburg man has finally made his first plea in a case where he's accused of stealing a prescription pain medication from a local pharmacy. Records at the Knox County Courthouse indicate 55-year old Steven Jones pleaded Not Guilty Wednesday to felony charges of Robbery and Armed Robbery. Jones was arrested back in June after allegedly robbing the Walgreens store on Fremont Street several days earlier.

Jones allegedly walked back into the pharmacy area, and handed an employee a note demanding all the OxyContin the store had. Police reports indicate when the pharmacist walked away, Jones allegedly jumped the counter and pulled a knife. He got away, allegedly, with 160 OxyContin pills, and police say that evidence found in his Duval Avenue and in his car linked him to the crime.

Jones' arraignment hearing had been delayed a month after he was checked into a detox program at a Peoria-based institution.

Jones will be back in court October sixth for a pre-trial hearing. He's free from jail after posting bond.
