Two Fires at Monmouth Home Thursday Under Investigation
The state fire marshal's office is assisting Monmouth authorities in their investigation of separate fires at an unoccupied home that firefighters responded two twice early Thursday morning.

A report from the Monmouth Fire Department authored by Captain Tony Cook indicates firefighters from Monmouth, Roseville, Cameron and Kirkwood initially responded to a house at 314 South D Street just before 1:00am Thursday and put out a fire that officials couldn't determine the cause.

Firefighters returned to the same house shortly after 4am to find it fully engulfed in flames. The other fire departments that assisted the first time were called back to help, and authorities also called for an investigator from the state fire marshal's office. Authorities spent three hours at the scene of the fire the second time they were called there.

Monmouth officials say the house sustained heavy fire damage. The listed owner of the home is Cynthia Lantz, who was not at the house when the fire broke out. The estimated damage to the home is over 100 thousand dollars. The home is believed to be vacant.

No injuries are reported, and authorities consider the fires suspicious.
