Auditions Set for Next Prairie Players Production
Prairie Players Civic Theatre announces auditions for the first production of their 50th Anniversary Season, the musical melodrama The Saloonkeeper's Daughter, directed by Larry Diemer, with music direction by Bob Fornander.

Auditions will be on Tuesday, September 9, and Wednesday, September 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Prairie Players Rehearsal facility, 160 South Seminary Street, Galesburg. Production dates are Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 26, at 2 p.m. at the Sandburg Mall Theatre in Galesburg.

The cast calls for 6 adult men and 6 adult women. Auditions will be cold readings from the script and either a song prepared by the actor or a selection from the show.

In The Saloonkeeper's Daughter, the audience will have ample opportunity to cheer, hiss and boo -- all to musical cues -- with Mannly Rasch (villain), Red White (the saloonkeeper), Lily (his daughter), Parson Kindly and his daughter Charity, saloon girls Cinnamon, Sally and Molly, prospector Grimes, Seedy Shlepper (Manly's stooge) and, of course, hero Rusty Witts (stalwart, but stupid). The insane plot, 19 delightful musical numbers, asides to the audience and the hilarious comeuppance of the villain make this show a classic. The book, music, and lyrics of Saloonkeeper's Daughter were written by Jack Sharkey and Dave Resier
