City, U of I Extension, Want Help Beautifying East Main St. Corridor
Members of the public are being asked to give input on how the city of Galesburg's eastern section can be improved.

The city, through the Knox County University of Illinois Extention, is hosting a meeting Tuesday night from five to eight at the Oaks Senior Center on North Farnham Street regarding what they call the future of the East Main Street Corridor in Galesburg -- most of which recently became either one of two tax increment finance districts.

Carrie McKillip, Extension Economic Development Educator, is spearheading the meeting, and tells WGIL she'd like to see anyone who has any sort of interest at all in the East Main at the meeting. "We're encouraging anyone in the community to attend," McKillip said. "Those who live on East Main St., those who have businesses on East Main St., and really anyone who has an interest in helping improve the appearance of what is, really, the main entrance into our community."

McKillip says there will be a presentation made, but anyone can share ideas about how the East Main Street Corridor should look.

The City says it's grateful for the help of the Extension on the project, and especially students from the U of I's Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Landscape Architecture.

The meeting is free.
