City Council Recaps Goals
The Galesburg City Council has had its second, and final, goal-setting session, and this time, several items again surfaced to the top.

Aldermen agreed to keep the push to get railroad crossings in town designated as quiet zones, listed a number of road and sidewalk concerns, and other needs; but Mayor Gary Smith had one question in mind: just how to we expect to pay for all that? When is the line between what we want, and what can we afford, blurred?

City Manager Dane Bragg says that's a good question. "Any goal process that we go through, we know we don't have the money in the bank to accomplish all those goals right away," Bragg said. "That's why we have to go through that prioritization process and really establish what is the most important item or items that we need to pursue."

Bragg gave each alderman a list of potential goals, for them to prioritize and possibly eliminate, with the assignment to turn it back in to him by next Monday night's council meeting.

Among other issues, at least one alderman suggested that for economic development purposes, the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association hold off on promoting the new Logistics Park and instead focus on restaurants and smaller businesses, while another alderman suggested setting a goal of having at least one company in the logistics park by next July first.
