Quinn: U of I Administrators Fate Not Yet Determined
The fate of top administrators at the University of Illinois is not settled.

Gov. Pat Quinn has appointed six new members to the University of Illinois Board of Trustees following a scandal over the influence of political clout in admissions. The governor says he expects these new board members now to consider the future of U. of I. President B. Joseph White and Champaign-Urbana Chancellor Richard Herman.

"I think that the high officials of the University of Illinois have to be held to account," he said. "That should be done by the board, and I think that process will begin on Thursday."

Thursday is the next meeting of the U. of I. board. Quinn says he did not pick new trustees on the basis of where they stand on the administration. He says he didn't even discuss that with them.

The four new members of the board Quinn appointed Friday, and the one former member he re-appointed, are all University of Illinois graduates. Asked whether it would have been a better idea to appoint trustees not tied to the university in that way, the governor noted that all the appointees are of good character, and they shouldn’t be penalized for having attended the U. of I.
