Telecommunications Commission, Water Plant on Galesburg Council Agenda
A commission set up a long time ago by the Galesburg City Council may soon be a thing of the past.

The Galesburg City Council Monday night will consider on first reading, an ordinance to disband the city's Telecommunications Commission.

In documents sent to the council, city officials say the commission was set up more than 10 years ago to advise the council on telecommunications systems, and the city's franchises to that end would report to the commission then to the council.

But the city says they've not met in four and a half years due, in part, to franchise agreement changes.

Final action on the proposal would come in two weeks.

Aldermen Monday night will consider making a change to an agreement for a zero-interest loan from the state's E.P.A. that would pay for flood protection measures at the city's new water treatment plant in Oquawka, and will consider bids for such work.

The Galesburg City Council will meet starting at 6:30pm Monday for the first of several scheduled budget work sessions, with the regular meeting starting at 7:30, all in council chambers at City Hall.
