Liquor-Related Ordinance Changes on Council Agenda
No action will be taken Monday night, but the Galesburg City Council will at least begin the discussion on two changes to the city's liquor ordinances.

Aldermen will hear, on first reading Monday night, a proposal to amend the liquor ordinance to allow 19-year olds to serve alcohol.

But not in all instances. The city says it would only be permissable if it's, in the city's words, "incidental" to the primary function of serving food. The minors would also have to take training before they can serve such beverages.

Aldermen Monday will also hear about a proposal to remove limitations on the number of "Class G" liquor licenses a business or non-profit can obtain in a year. Such licenses are usually given for charity and other similar events.

But before that, and consideration of the Orpheum Theatre's request for $100,000 in matching funds in support of a federal grant application, aldermen will have the first in a series of work sessions on the city budget for the next calendar-slash-fiscal year.

The Galesburg City Council will convene starting at 6:30pm Monday in council chambers at City Hall.
