USDA: Corn Dryers Will Have to be Used This Year
One effect of the delayed crop season in Illinois will be the use of dryers, according to the USDA's top crop statistician in the state. Brad Schwab says the crops will not have had enough time to naturally dry down.

Three percent of corn is in the mature stage, compared to the five-year average at this date of 31 percent, according to the weekly USDA crop progress and condition report. For soybeans, 7 percent of the crop is yellowing. The five-year average is 42 percent.

Sixty-four percent of the corn crop and 60 percent of the soybean crop show a good or excellent rating.
