Illinois to Offer "Free Fishing Day"
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Fishing enthusiasts are in luck.

State officials are offering what they call a "free fishing day" later this month. That means children and adults will be able to fish without a license on Sept. 19.

The event is part of a celebration highlighting Illinois' rivers and streams.

The director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources says he hopes the day will spark interest among young people to enjoy parks.

The free day will apply to both Illinois residents and nonresidents. Fishing will only be allowed within Illinois state park boundaries, wildlife areas and natural areas.
