Knoxville to Distribute Economic Development Survey
The City of Knoxville is preparing to send out surveys to local businesses to see if there are any ways the city can grow and improve.

First Ward Alderman and Economic Development Committee Chair Jim Eastwood distributed to the City Council Tuesday night a letter he wants to distribute to businesses in town asking three questions:

*What should the city do with the lot the old PEO home was once on?
* Should the city stay as is, bring more industry or restaurants and motels to town?
* Should the city sell alcohol in restaurants or in packaged form?

Eastwood says the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association will help with the survey, and he wants to take a lot of stock in how it comes out.

"GREDA said they would compile the surveys," Eastwood said. "I'm thinking if 51 percent say they want to do something, I'm going to do something. And if they don't, we'll discuss it."

Fourth Ward Alderman Tom Worden says he'd like to see the second question -- regarding bringing businesses to town -- be altered a bit.

"Separate, for the downtown area, how we'd like to see the city grow...and what kind of business or industry you'd like in the County 10 area," Worden said.

That's the area where a new bank has opened up, and is close to Logistics Park Galesburg.

The survey is expected to be revised and will be brought back before aldermen in two weeks.
