FIRST ON WGIL: Knox County Health Department Hires New Administrator
POSTED 9:31pm, UPDATED 10:55pm 9/10/09 The search is over and Knox County Board of Health members and officials with the Knox County Health Department say they are relieved to have hired a new administrator at the health department.

Knox County Board of Health President Jeanne Harland announced the hiring of Heidi Britton to the administrator position at the Board of Health's meeting Thursday night.

Harland says Britton brings excitement, enthusiasm, and energy to the department as well as being in tune with the financial aspects at the department.

Britton says she is excited to begin working with people who have the longevity and passion to work at the Knox County Health Department.

Britton tells WGIL she had many aspects that qualified her for the position.

"I bring experience working at a local health department in the State of Illinois. I bring experience culturally as far as living outside of the country for a few years. And I bring a whole lot of compassion and love."

Britton replaces Rhonda Peterson who has served as interim health department administrator since May when former administrator Greg Chance took a position with the Peoria City/County Health Department. Peterson says she was happy to see a planning grant applied for by the health department received. She says it will make the department grow.

The Knox County Board of Health also will be re-hiring two of the employees that had been laid off earlier this summer. The board also filled a LPN position that had been resigned and signed a two year agreement for an Advanced Practice Nurse.

Britton begins her role as administrator beginning on Monday.
