"Art in the Park" Saturday
A local event showing off some of the best art work the area has to offer continues to grow, and organizers say that is definitely the case this year as well.

The Galesburg Civic Art Center is hosting its annual "Art in the Park" event Saturday. The daylong event features paintings, photography, sculptures, and more, and all will be judged and given awards at the end of the day.

But Art in the Park Committee member Todd Ettinger tells WGIL this year, the opportunity for younger artists to show off their works will be much bigger than before.

"We started the 'Emerging Artists Exhibition'; this is where we are offering exhibition space for Junior High through college-age artists -- student artists," Ettinger said. "This year, we've really expanded it. We've got...a 20-by-20-foot tent we'll have set there, and have about 40 artists from these different school levels participating this year."

Ettinger says it should give the youth participants valuable experience showing artwork in what otherwise would be in a competitive environment.

The event is free and in Standish Park from 9am to 4pm Saturday, and organizers say it will also include food and live entertainment as well.
