Quinn Marks 9/11 Anniversary
Gov. Pat Quinn Friday joined with Gold Star families to remember the terrorist attacks eight years ago.

As he issued a proclamation declaring Friday a Day of Service and Remembrance, Quinn called on Illinoisans to look at ways they can volunteer in their community. Quinn also asked that we remember Illinois service members who gave their lives in the Global War on Terror.

Quinn spoke in front of the traveling Portrait of a Soldier memorial exhibit, which is a series of hand-drawn portraits of more than 220 Illinois service members who lost their lives while in combat following the terrorist attacks of 2001.

Quinn also asked Illinoisans to support the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund, which provides financial grants to the families of deployed Illinois service members facing hardship.
