Quinn Criticizes New Candidate for Governor
CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn fired back at Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes shortly after Hynes criticized Quinn as he announced his campaign for governor..

At his announcement earlier Wednesday, Hynes called for a progressive state income tax that would shift more of the burden onto wealthier residents. Hynes contrasted his call with Quinn's recent support for raising the current flat tax on everyone.

But Quinn says a progressive tax is the kind of thing he pushed for five years ago but that Hynes then opposed. And Quinn characterized Hynes as a professional naysayer who's refused to work with him on anything.

Quinn didn't directly say he wants a progressive tax. But he did say he believes taxes should be paid according to one's ability to pay.
