Family Weekend Upcoming at Monmouth College
Monmouth College's annual Family Weekend will headline a busy Sept. 18-20 schedule on campus. In addition to the popular celebration, which this year is titled "Dancing in the Streets," the college will welcome prospective students to its first admission open house of the academic year.

Family Weekend was designed primarily to help students enjoy the Monmouth College experience with their families. Parents are encouraged to visit their sons' and daughters' classes between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday. There will be "inflatable" activities for all ages in the quad area between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Dahl Chapel and Auditorium will host three performances during Family Weekend. "The Show-Off Show" will be presented Friday at 8 p.m., and a special concert will be performed Saturday at 7 p.m. Among the groups in concert will be the Monmouth Winds, the Monmouth Chorale, the Concert Choir and the Chamber Orchestra. Both events are free and open to the public.

Following the concert, students and their families will be treated to a comedy performance by the famous Second City improv group. Reservations and a ticket are required for admission to the 9 p.m. show.

Another feature of Family Weekend is a "legacy" brunch at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Quinby House. Open to students and their alumni relatives, the event celebrates Monmouth’s long-standing family traditions.

Home athletic events Saturday include a football game against Beloit at 1 p.m. at April Zorn Memorial Stadium and a women's soccer match vs. Central College at 1 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park.

For more information about Family Weekend, contact the student affairs office at 309-457-2345.

The office of admission's open house includes an early-bird session for students interested in college athletics at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The open house officially begins at 10:15 a.m. with a welcome in the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium. Prospective students will hear a message from President Mauri Ditzler and will be led on guided campus tours. Visitors will also be able to attend sessions where they can learn more about the admission and financial aid process. For more information or to register for the open house, call 800-74-SCOTS or e-mail admit@monm.edu.
