Local Soldiers Return Home Wednesday
A Galesburg man who's worked with the Galesburg and Abingdon Police Departments is coming home Wednesday after serving his country in the military, and friends and family members want the public to show their support.

Friends tell WGIL 23-year old Specialist Jared Tapscott will be returning home Wednesday evening. Tapscott is assigned to Troop B, 2nd Battalion, 106th Calvary in Dixon -- one of several units of National Guard soldiers returning home this evening.

The guard says that group will be in Dixon around 5pm Wednesday and friends say that would put Tapscott in Galesburg around 7 or shortly thereafter.

Organizers of a welcome home celebration for Tapscott say they'd like residents to gather along either North Henderson Street between Carl Sandburg Drive and Losey Street, or Losey Street from Henderson to Maple, as a caravan with Tapscott will be travelling that route once they come to town.

They're also asking local businesses to use their signs to welcome him home.

Tapscott is a Community Service Officer and Emergency Police Officer in Galesburg, and is also a volunteer with the Auxiliary Police in Abingdon.

National Guard Units from Kewanee, Pontiac, Dixon, Aurora, Springfield, and Mount Vernon are all returning home tonight from Afghanistan.

Tapscott, along with Staff Sergeant Ruben Randolph, are along Galesburg soldiers from various units we've heard about that are coming home Wednesday.
