Final Vote, Public Hearing on Galesburg School District Budget Monday Night
A spending plan that was described as "balanced but uncertain" will be voted on by the Galesburg School Board Monday night.

The District-205 Board of Education Monday evening will vote on the Fiscal Year 2010 budgets for the district, the Knox-Warren Special Education District, and the Galesburg-Area Vocational Center.

District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Guy Cahill said in July that the district's main $38 million budget would still see a surplus. But Cahill says turned out to be a $160 increase in the state per pupil spending level after the budget was figured out, resulted in a $180,000 fund deficit in the Education Fund, after the per pupil rate was dropped a couple hundred dollars.

It's more than likely the budget has changed somewhat anyway since it was first presented two months ago, in part, because of the recently-ratified contract with the Galesburg Education Association.

Public hearings on the budget will begin at 6:40 p-m Monday, with the regular meeting starting at seven o'clock, all in the district's board room at Lincoln School.
