IDNR Hunting Season Changes for Hunters Create More Opportunities
Illinois hunters will notice a few changes this year that might work to their advantage.

Deer hunters will be out in a couple of months. The firearm season is November 20th through the 22nd, and December 5th and 6th. The muzzleloader season follows. It's December 11th through the 13th.

Stacey Solano, spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, says changes to deer hunting rules include more opportunities in the late-winter season.

"It's being expanded from a three-day season to a split seven-day season, which will run December 31st through January 3rd and then again January 15th through the 17th."

Firearm and muzzleloader-only permits that are still available after the close of the random daily drawing period for those permits - which began last Tuesday and runs through October 1st - will be sold over the counter through DNR direct license and permit agents beginning October 19th.

In addition, Solano says DNR is trying to promote youth hunting as well.

"In the past youth permits have been available only through an application or lottery system. This year's permits for the Youth Hunt, which will be held October 10th and 11th this year, will only be available over the counter as single county-specific permits through DNR direct license and permit agents."
