Knoxville Police Investigate Suspected Child Abduction
Knoxville's Police Chief is crediting a 10-year old girl with knowing what to do when sensing what many call "stranger danger."

Chief Ron Poyner says someone allegedly tried to abduct the girl Wednesday morning. He says investigators were called to Mable Woolsey Elementary School around 8:15am.

Poyner says police were told a white female around 55 years old, described as having blond hair in braids, fairly tall, and slim with two missing front teeth, left the passenger side of a van parked near the school, approached the girl, and demanded she get into the van. He says the girl then backed away, then ran to police in the area.

The van is described as being one like a 1999 Plymouth GSX van, colored dark green with a black stripe across the bottom.

No suspects are in custody and no other information is being released, though Poyner says officers throughout the county have been notified of what he calls an isolated incident.

A heightened police presence will be around Mable Woolsey until further notice, though Poyner says parents need to be aware of the situation.

Anyone with information can call Knoxville Police or the Galesburg-Area CrimeStoppers Hotline.
