September Brings Cheaper Gas Prices
The price of gas in Illinois is a little cheaper this month.

The monthly survey by the AAA Chicago Motor Club says a gallon of regular unleaded is down 12 cents from August, from $2.71 to a statewide average of $2.59. Prices in Galesburg this week have been below the statewide average.

AAA spokeswoman Beth Mosher says gasoline supply and demand are now in equilibrium.

"A lot of the time, we see oil really weigh in and mess up the supply and demand chain," Mosher said. "Supply and demand are where they should be right now, and it's naturally affecting gas prices."

Mosher says demand is weak with the summer driving season coming to an end, and there is no problems with supply with the Gulf Coast hurricane season having little to no impact on ports and refineries.

This month's average gas price is down $1.32 compared to a year ago at the same time.
