Galesburg Community Foundation Gives to Orpheum Fundraising Effort
A group who's top official says a local theatre fosters a healthy community and provides access to arts and culture will be throwing it's support behind the facility's chance to grow and improve.

The Galesburg Community Foundation announced Wednesday they will be donating $50,000, broken up over two fiscal years, to the Orpheum Theatre's capital matching fundraising efforts in order to obtain a federal "Save Americas Treasures" grant.

CGF Executive Director Josh Gibb tells WGIL his group recognizes the historic and cultural significance of the theatre to the surrounding areas.

"The Community Foundation believes in what the Orpheum is trying to accomplish," Gibb said. "We just feel that it would be a crime if we didn't invest in something that's within our community that makes us unique to other areas around us. We're proud...to be a promoter of the Orpheum Theatre, and look forward to continuing to support Galesburg."

The Orpheum Theatre has already secured more than $200,000 of support from groups like the City of Galesburg and Carl Sandburg College.

Orpheum President Kate Francis says the theatre is moving forward with regional grant applications to Ameren IP and the Kresge Foundation to hopefully complete the theatre's fundraising requirement, and they're waiting on hearing about support from Knox County and the Galesburg Downtown Council.

Francis says it's always good to see groups within the community donate their support since many groups looks at how much local support the project receives.
