Ikenberry Could Return as U of I Interim President
He's not guessing who will end up in the top spot, but Governor Pat Quinn does believe a former University of Illinois president could step up and serve as the university's interim president.

With the resignation of President B. Joseph White, U. of I. board members now have the task of appointing a temporary successor. One of the longest-serving U. of I. presidents, Stanley Ikenberry, says he has been approached by two board members about returning on a temporary basis, but says no formal offer has been made.

Quinn, who sits on the Board of Trustees but has no vote, says he is open to the idea. "He's a good man," Quinn said. "I've worked with Stanley Ikenberry in the past...he's a good man and we need a good president."

Ikenberry served as president over all three U. of I. campuses from 1979 to 1995.

White resigned last week due to the scandal involving the influence of political clout in university admissions.
