GHS Students Will Not Be Disciplined for Late Homecoming Ticket Purchases; But Policy Will Be in Effect Next Year
UPDATED 4:55pm 9/29/09 The principal at Galesburg High School says students who bought tickets to this year's Homecoming dance at the door in violation of school policy will not be punished for doing so after all.

Doctor Tom Chiles has issued a statement saying that the approximately 50 students who received detentions for purchasing tickets at the door will not have to serve those detentions.

A published report Tuesday told the plight of one student who received such a detention, and how serving a Saturday detention would have proven to be a hardship.

Chiles' statement, however, says the policy of requiring pre-purchased tickets, and possessing a current G.H.S. I.D. card was publicized to students and parents well ahead of last Saturday night's dance. And they say that the same policy WILL be in effect next year.

He says the policy was borne out of an ability to plan the dance and make sure the environment is safe for all involved.

Calls to Galesburg High School when WGIL received the statement were not answered Tuesday afternoon.
