Outage Information in the Palm of Your Hand
Ameren customers who lose electricity to their homes or business can now turn to their handheld devices for updates on outages.

The St. Louis-based utility says users of ameren.mobi can report an outage from a number of mobile devices. Customers can also see outage information by county and zip codes as well as reading about safety tips from the utility company.

Ameren spokesman Leigh Morris says if you have a Blackberry, Palm Pilot or iPhone, you can log onto ameren.mobi to see where outages are located.

"It allows (customers) to get up to date information about service outages that typically are caused by storms," Morris said.

Morris says consumers are increasingly dependant on their mobile devices for Internet access and the Ameren program addresses that need. He says only a handful of utility companies around the country have a program like this in place.

Ameren has over a million customers in the State of Illinois.
