Durbin Says He's Ready for Health Care Debate to Resume
Congress returns from its summer recess this week, meaning the health care reform debate will resume.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) says he has had it up to here with Republican senators who are supposed to be negotiating a bill, but who've spent the last month in their home states saying their real goal is to kill reform. "There's no point in sitting at a table if you can’t really have a positive view toward coming up with legislation that helps everybody," he said. "And compromise is important, but if there are people who are determined to vote against whatever comes out, then you're wasting your time."

Durbin says it's unfortunate that so many people who know better have allowed misinformation to fester. The proposals coming out of Congress do not cover illegal immigrants or abortions, and do not set up "death panels" to decide whether old folks live or die.
