Westcode to Cut Workforce
Monday was a day to celebrate Galesburg's work force, despite the fact it seems to be shrinking.

Westcode Manufacturing has announced it will be cutting its workforce of 17, by more than half.

Manager Mike Donaldson tells WGIL things are just too slow for the company to employ that many workers.

"Basically, what's going on is we've finished up our contract with our customers. At the end of October, first part of November, we'll be finishing up our contract with (Suburban Chicago commuter rail system) Metra, and...we just don't have any work available," Donaldson said.

Donaldson says around five to six workers will stay on, though a final number has not been determined yet.

Westcode overhauls and builds air conditioning units and makes closers for pneumatic doors.

Donalson adds that he hopes to find enough new contracts or work orders to call back some of the employees.
