Chicago's Mayor Daley Won't Run for Re-Election
CHICAGO (AP) -- The man who has been mayor of the nation's third-largest city for 21 years has decided not to seek a seventh term.

Mayor Richard Daley says he's been thinking about not running for several months and has become comfortable with his decision over the last several weeks.

The announcement not to run in the February election was made with little warning, but wasn't a surprise to everyone.

Daley has refused to say whether he would run again, fueling speculation that he might not. His wife, Maggie, has been battling cancer.

The announcement leaves an open door for White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel. He's said that he'd like to run for mayor of Chicago someday.

Other possible names are Democratic Congressmen Jesse Jackson Jr. and Luis Gutierrez and Chicago Alderman Bob Fioretti.
