Many Still Light Up
Smoking has leveled off in America -- to about 21 percent of adults, according to new numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The report says the rate of adults who say they are smokers has been flat since about 2004, but the rate for Illinois is lower -- between 16 and 19 percent.

Kathy Drea, spokeswoman for the American Lung Association in Illinois, says the stringent Smoke Free Illinois law has been effective -- so much so that now, she says, people are surprised when they go to out to eat in places such as Missouri and Indiana and are asked, "smoking or non-smoking?"

Drea and State Sen. Terry Link (D-Waukegan) will be in Indiana Wednesday to speak to lawmakers there about smoke-free efforts.
