Increased Dog Tag Fees, Added Animal Fines, in Knoxville
It's going to cost a little more to have a dog or cat at home in the city of Knoxville.

The Knoxvile City Council voted Tuesday night to increase dog tag fees to $15 for pets that are unspayed, and only $5 for pets that are spayed.

Second Ward Alderman Bernadine Fleisher says before now, city hall office staff weren't collecting a lot at dog tag time.

"[The fees] have been prorated, to where the girls were charging was about 65 cents or something like that," Fleisher said. "This has been changed so that we have raised it."

Fleisher says there's still a four-animal limit, and leash laws still apply.

Aldermen Tuesday night also imposed a fine for residents who let their pets run at large through the city and have to be picked up by animal control, saying a loophole let residents pick up the pets, pay the boarding fee, then pay for a dog tag, but no fine.

The city also announced that its annual fall clean-up will be the week of October eighth.
