Hare Introduces TV Ad
Congressman Phil Hare has unveiled his first campaign ad leading up to the November election, and it deals with an issue he differs from both Democrats and Republicans alike on.

"...Bobby Schilling says we should sign a bad trade deal with Korea," Hare says in the ad. "Schilling even signed a pledge to protect tax breaks for corporations that send our jobs overseas."

That's part of the ad the Rock Island Democrat unveiled at several stops Wednesday including at the Steelworkers Union Hall in Galesburg. The South Korea free trade deal is one President Obama says he supports.

Hare says there is a way he'd vote for a free trade deal with Korea.

"I'll vote for it when the Koreans lift the tariffs on automobiles and beef," Hare said. "I will vote for trade with the Korean trade deal when the negotiators bring farmers and manufacturers first on a trade deal instead of giving it like we are second-hand citizens and 'Here's the trade deal. Take it or leave it.'"

While the ad criticizes Schilling, and Schilling's campaign has fired back claiming it's an attack ad, Hare also claims the election isn't about that sort of thing.

"This election isn't about me, and it's not about Mr. Schiling. It's about where are we going," Hare said. "Do we really want to give the keys back to the very same people that ran us into the debt, that want to give tax breaks to companies that want to go overseas?"

Hare claims the deal with Korea reminds him of what happened to the Galesburg Maytag plant and the 1,600 jobs there before it closed six years ago. He says he doesn't want to see that happen again.

A Schilling campaign statement says Hare is "on the fringe on this issue."

The statement indicates Schilling continues to support the trade deal, and called Hare's television spot an attack ad.

The ad is currently airing on Quad Cities television stations.

Meantime, Schilling's campaign posted its own YouTube video Wednesday:
