Galesburg Budget Deficit: $3.4 Million
The city of Galesburg could deal with a large budget deficit next year, to the tune of $3.4 million.

Council members held a budget work session before the city council meeting Tuesday evening.

Finance Director Gloria Osborn says the city's expenditures could go up nearly three million dollars compared to this year.

"General fund expenditures are around $25 million," Osborn said. "There's really no fluff there. It was all those contributions that we had to catch up on."

Estimated revenue for the city is just about $22 million leaving a $3.4 million hole.

Osborn says some expenses will have to be cut, but it will be for programs or building improvements that have been put off before and really should be fully funded next year.

Vehicle replacement contributions for the city, for example, could be cut by $300,000 this year, that's after a substantial cut last year.

Administration also recommends funding no capital projects from the general fund.
