Secretary of State Says Opponent's Idea "Laughable"
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White says his opponent is calling for something that already happens every year.

Republican candidate for the position, Robert Enriqez, is calling for a forensic audit of the secretary of state's budget if he is elected.

White, however, tells WGIL, the campaign promise just isn't necessary.
"It's laughable, because we have Jim Burns, the former U.S. Attorney for Northern Illinois as my inspector general," White said. "We have an audit component that's presently in place; matter of fact, it's been in place for a long period of time. You also have the auditor general...he audits the office every year. So I'm trying to figure out where is this gentleman going with that one."

White was interviewed this week at the WGIL studios.

White has served as secretary since 1998. There is no green party candidate for the job.
