Orpheum Receives Grant for Heating, Cooling Work
Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre is now well on its way toward replacing what have sometimes been described as antiquated heating and air conditioning systems in the nearly century-old facility.

That's because the Orpheum announced Friday it has secured a federal economic stimulus grant, through the City of Galesburg, totaling $100,000.

The grant, a news release says, came through the Western Illinois Regional Council is in the form of an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.

The Theatre has been looking at ways to increase energy efficiency as it figures out how to stop using an old boiler and outdated air conditioning system.

The theatre has partnered with an energy management firm to make that happen.

The grant's not all, though. The news release says the theatre must now apply for additional funding, as required, through the State's Energy Efficiency Portfolio Program, and must also comply with guidelines from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
