State Pleased with Labor Day Stats
Labor Day weekend brought a lot of people to state parks and other sites, and state officials are pleased with the behavior of most of those people.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation police officers:
Arrested 34 people for alcohol- and drug-related offenses
Wrote 139 tickets to motorists
Issued 104 citations for hunting and fishing violations
Wrote 58 citations for other offenses at state parks and other sites.

Januari Smith, spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, says overall, the weekend went well. She points out that no fatalities were reported, nor were any hunting accidents. Two boating accidents were handled by conservation police. She says conservation police are out patrolling every day, and hopes the numbers mean that more people are taking the rules seriously.

In 2009, DNR CPOs arrested 27 people for OUI and DUI. Wet weather throughout much of Illinois during parts of the 2009 Labor Day weekend contributed to lower numbers of arrests and incidents compared to the same time in 2008 (42).
