Early IL Harvest Continues
Lots of combines are in the fields early in Illinois. Cool and dry weather last week helped corn and soybean crops to mature, which has been a pleasant change since last year's soggy weather kept crops wet and kept farmers out of the fields.

Crop statistician Mike Clark says the corn crop is now 18 percent harvested, up from less than one percent last year and six percent for the five-year average. As for soybeans, 42 percent are shedding leaves, ahead of last year's three percent and the 23 percent five-year average. Farmers had 5.8 days on average to be in the fields last week.

Clark says if this weather continues, Illinois could set a record for an early harvest.
