GOP Takes Over Du Quoin
Republicans anxious for a victory in November tried to pick up steam at the Du Quoin State Fair.

Candidates from across Southern Illinois gathered at the fair Tuesday for Republican's Day. State Senator Bill Brady, the Republican candidate for governor and his running mate Jason Plummer spoke to a crowd of roughly 500 about the importance of getting the word out to neighbors and friends ahead of the fast approaching election.

"I don't look at you guys like a crowd of [400] or 500, I look at you folks as [400] or 500 people that are going to go out for the next two months and talk to 10 people and talk to 20 people and talk to folks at church and at little league and at Friday night football games and at work," Plummer said.

Brady stressed that Republican's would bring back integrity in government and turn the state's reputation around.

"Aren't you tired of being the punch line of nearly every late night talk show," Brady questioned the crowd. "We are, and this election is an opportunity to return our state to a state of pride."

State comptroller candidate Judy Baar Topinka, Treasurer candidate, State Senator Dan Rutherford and Senate candidate, U.S. Representative Mark Kirk were not at the fair Tuesday.

The Republican rivals in this election years were on hand just days earlier on Saturday for Democrat day.
