Broadband Could Create New Jobs
Increased broadband and high speed wireless service could bring 8,000 new jobs to Illinois. That's the estimate from the Illinois Technology Partnership.

ITP executive director Lindsay Mosher says that more than $365 million in funding for broadband and high speed wireless service has been announced by state government since June. She says based on that and estimates made by the Communications Workers of America, this funding has the potential to:

■ Create about 8,000 new jobs
■ Connect at least 20,000 residents
■ Link 7,900 businesses, and
■ Connect 5,200 community institutions.

She points out that the numbers reflect the potential for jobs and connections over the life of these improvements. Mosher also says the jobs aren't just telecommunications or construction jobs, but all the jobs made possible when a business has better Internet access and has more work to do.
