SIU Trustees to Consider Unpaid Closure Days
CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) -- Southern Illinois University's Board of Trustees will consider a change to the Administrative Closure Policy for its Carbondale campus this week.

Chancellor Rita Cheng says trustees will be looking at a proposal that includes up to six unpaid closure days as a way to make up for a funding shortfall.

Cheng says a 4 percent across-the-board cut and other changes didn't close the $15 million shortfall SIU needs to fill. She says four unpaid closure days will likely be needed, but she says the additional two will give leaders some wiggle room if necessary.

SIUC is still owed money for last year's budget from the state. Cheng says they don't expect to see any of this fiscal year's state funding until January.

The SIU Board of Trustees meets Thursday in Edwardsville.
