Quinn to Pick Private Manager for Lottery
CHICAGO (AP) -- Governor Pat Quinn is expected to name a private company to manage Illinois' $2 billion lottery.

The governor is facing a Wednesday deadline to choose between Northstar Lottery Group and Camelot Illinois.

Northstar is a partnership between three companies that already hold Illinois contracts for lottery machines, instant tickets and marketing. Camelot runs the United Kingdom's lottery.

Both companies promise to increase sales by getting younger and more affluent adults to play and introducing new games. The companies also hope to take the Illinois lottery online.

Legislators passed a measure requiring the state to pick a private manager but retain regulatory oversight. The lottery provides money for education and capital projects.
