Quinn Says Ryan Should "Do the Time"
Former Governor George Ryan is making a bid to get out of prison. His attorneys have filed a motion in federal court to throw out parts of his conviction based on a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that curtailed an anti-fraud law used by prosecutors to convict politicians.

Ryan attorney James R. Thompson says the hope is that the move will result in Ryan's release soon from federal prison. Ryan, age 76, is serving a 6 and a half year sentence and was expected to be released in 2013.

Current Governor Pat Quinn says he doesn't want to see Ryan let out early. "If you do the crime, you gotta do the time," he told reporters Wednesday.

Thompson says Ryan has done the time for the crimes he committed, but Thompson said Ryan shouldn't be serving time under an unlawful law.
