Giannoulias Endorses Libertarian Candidate
The Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate is getting a ringing endorsement.

In the wake of the defeat of a moderate Republican at the hands of a conservative activist in the Senate primary in Delaware, an e-mail Wednesday touts Mike Labno, the Libertarian, as the alternative for conservatives to moderate U.S. Rep. Mark S. Kirk (R-Highland Park) for Senate.

That e-mail comes from the campaign of Democrat Alexi Giannoulias.

Labno says thanks, but he's not about to become buddies with Giannoulias. "I'm gonna let my record and my statements speak for myself," he said. "I don't think Alexi gets everything right either. Both sides need to come to the table and realize that there's a new party in town, and people have had it with both of them."

The Giannoulias e-mail touts Labno as the only pro-life, pro-gun candidate in the race, and criticizes Kirk as a 10-year incumbent who voted for the Wall Street bailout.

The obvious intent is to peel some unhappy Republicans away from Kirk in what is shaping up as a close race.

Labno, 39, is a manager in the electrical construction industry. He lives in Oak Brook. He has never run for political office before.
