IL Lacking in Bed Bug Fight
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois officials admit the state's efforts to battle bed bugs are lagging.

Earlier this year, the General Assembly approved a plan to have a committee of experts offer guidance on how to eradicate bed bugs. The committee is to recommend how the state will combat the bug.

The effort is on hold because Gov. Pat Quinn hasn't appointed members to a panel that is to name bed bug committee members.

Illinois Department of Public Health spokeswoman Melaney Arnold tells the Herald-Review in Decatur she is unsure when a study of the problem will get under way.

Reports of bed bugs have surged in recent years as they have become resistant to more pesticides. A recent list compiled by a pest control company shows Chicago ranks fifth in the nation out of 15 large cities with bed bug infestations.
