Slow Economic Recovery in Illinois
The economic health of Illinois is still in need of some rehab according to the monthly Flash Index from the University of Illinois.

The index considers consumer spending, personal income, and corporate earnings.

Author Fred Giertz, an economic professor at the U of I says we don't necessarily want to return to the free spending ways of several years ago.

"People now are saving more and preparing more for the future. That has some temporary negative effects on the economy but in the long run that's really a good thing for individuals and a good thing for the economy for the economy to have a higher savings rate. So we're making a transition from a period of over exuberance to one where people are more reasonable in terms of their expectations."

The index is going up ever so slowly from 91.6 to 92, highest in more than a year.

A number above 100 means the state's economy is growing.
