Local Long and Short Films Shine in Galesburg
An annual film festival consisting primarily of locally produced works is going on once again in Galesburg.

The Galesburg Civic Art Center helps put on the 7th Annual Black Earth Film Festival, which started Thursday and continues through Saturday at several local venues.

Art Center Director Heather Norman tells WGIL the films shown over the next few days stick to the true definition of what they are.

"There are independent films that you see a lot now backed by big studios and big producers and then there's still the people next door: students who are trying to break into the business making films and these are those films. Most the time we get shorts, but locally produced are on very limited budgets. Once in a while we get a bigger budget one where's someone has had luck raising money."

A number of different local films will be shown, included in them is one produced locally about the Galesburg based rock band "Mindeffect."

Animation, Norman says, will be the focus of the final day of showings Saturday at the Carl Sandburg Birthplace.
