Galesburg City Council to Consider Interim Manager
The Galesburg City Council has picked the temporary man to run the day to day operations of city government.

The City Council Monday night will consider Peoria resident Craig Whitehead to be interim City Manager. According to a statement from the city, Whitehead, if approved, would start on Tuesday.

Whitehead spent three years as an assistant City Manager in Peoria, leaving that role in 2008, and is credited with helping the city cut costs and be more customer service oriented.

Prior to that, Whitehead has been a City Manager in Sioux City, Iowa and Newport, Vermont, and has also worked in cities in New York State.

In the city's prepared statement, Mayor Sal Garza said Whitehead's budget, finance, and economic development experience will serve the city well.

Garza, when now former City Manager Dane Bragg stepped down in August, initially said he'd like to see someone local hold the post while the city conducts a search for a permanent manager.

The city instead ended up utilizing the services of the Illinois City Manager Association's Range Rider program. A Chicago area firm is heading up the search for the permanent city manager.

Documents sent to aldermen ahead of Monday's vote indicate Whitehead will be paid $9,100 dollars a month for a term not to exceed six months.
