Farm Bureaus Fight Hunger
Hunger is a growing problem in the Quad Cities area, but some Western Illinois farmers are part of the solution.

The River Bend Food Bank in Moline helps almost 10,000 people a week through 300 feeding programs in 22 counties. It's getting help from five county farm bureaus that are participating in a Bushels for Hunger campaign, though which farmers can donate a portion of their corn or soybean crop.

"Farmers are going to contact us and tell us what percentage of their bushels they want to donate, you know, 5, 10, 15, any bushels will help," says Mike Seymour of Gold Star FS, a grain elevator in Cambridge.

The crop will be sold, and the cash will be given to the River Bend Food Bank, which will use the money to buy food for local food pantries.

Henry, Mercer, Rock Island, Stark and Whiteside County farm bureaus are participating in the effort.
