National Child Passenger Safety Week Kicks Off
This week is National Child Passenger Safety Week, and the state wants to make sure motorists know how to properly use child safety seats.

To get the word out, Secretary of State Jesse White has unveiled a new public service announcement to encourage people to use the seats correctly when they're driving with their children.

White says 80 percent of child safety seats used in Illinois are installed incorrectly.

"The leading cause of death and injury for children is automobile crashes," White said. "I hope this video sends the message to parents and caregivers that children must be properly restrained in child safety seats."

It's not just child safety seats that are found incorrectly installed, but also child booster seats, used for children between 4 and 8 years of age. In 2009 there were 6,953 convictions for child restrain violations in Illinois.

For more information or to schedule a safety seat inspection at a Drive Services facility, call 866 247-0213.
